Conrad worked at a private security agency which specialized in insurance claims for disability cases, and it involved a lot of travelling. Conrad and Shirley walked down the aisle on October 8, 1949, and remained by each other’s side for many years.
The couple divorced in 1977, but it seems they never had children during their married life. The couple never revealed the reasons for the divorce.

Conrad Chisholm was married to Shirley St. Hill. Shirley was born on November 30, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, and she was the eldest daughter of four. Shirley’s father worked as an unskilled labourer in a factory in New York, while her mother was a seamstress and a domestic.
Shirley’s family was poor, and due to the poverty, her mother took her to live with her maternal grandmother on a Barbados farm. At that time, Shirley was three years old and was later joined by her two younger sisters at the farm.
Shirley and her sister lived with their grandmother until she was eleven. While living with her grandmother, she acquired a soft West Indian accent, which remained with her for life. Shirley’s grandmother was supportive and taught her to be proud and courageous. Moreover, she had learnt how to read and write by age four.
When Shirley returned to her parents, they had changed drastically, and they now lived in an apartment in Brooklyn. She started school, and she experienced discrimination for the first time. Shirley was dedicated to her studies, graduating from Girl’s High School with an academic diploma and a medal in French.
She received two scholarships, which she could not accept because they were too expensive for her parents. Shirley joined Brooklyn College and graduated with a degree in sociology in 1946. She later joined Columbia University and earned a master’s degree in childhood education.

Shirley Chisholm was a famed American politician who made history as the first African-American woman to be elected to Congress. Shirley started being popular through democratic political clubs, but after the clubs never wanted to hear the ideas of an African-American, she helped form an independent political club.
The Bedford-Stuyvesant Political League was the club, and it succeeded in electing the first black judge in Brooklyn’s history. Shirley Chisholm won the New York State Assembly seat and became the first African-American woman to do so in 1964.
Chisholm made a name for herself and stood out as an industrious, reputable and disciplined legislator. She fought for unprivileged children and families and helped pass numerous laws in favour of African Americans.
